Artist Susan Crawford's mixed media paintings cause people to stop, look,...and look again. Her artwork is immediately recognized by its dramatic color and detail. Enhancing the imaginative and intriguing creations, Susan incorporates three-dimensional elements and multiple planes, resulting in works of art that break free of convention and traditional picture making. Drawing inspiration  from travel and living in diverse locations, Susan often describes her work as being inspired by and loosely based on the real world, which she interprets through her own vision and voice.

Susan graduated from the University of Montana, and has completed post-graduate study in painting and art history at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu and at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York. In addition, she trained at the Honolulu Academy of Arts in Honolulu, and served as a volunteer docent in the Children's Art Education Program at the Academy. Susan was recently accepted into the National Association of Women Artists in New York. Her studio is part of the Wilson Avenue Loft Artists (WALA) in Norwalk, Connecticut.

Susan also has created award-winning sculptures and large scale animated pieces. Her work is in corporate and private collections around the country.

Artist Statement: "On the surface, my work has been accurately described as lyrical and whimsical. However, I hope to bring the viewer more deeply into the creative process. While working with multiple planes and three-dimensional elements, the result breaks free of convention and traditional picture making.
The barriers of the picture frame cannot contain the exuberance of bold color and form, which spill off the canvas, unlocking the possibility of fantasy and magic. It is my desire to delight the viewer into riding this new wave of creativity, and to be free to enjoy the ride."
